China demands release of Huawei CFO, explanation

The Foreign Ministry in Beijing called on Canada to release the arrested Chief Financial Officer of its tech company Huawei Technologies Co. Wanzhou Meng, and asked for charges against her to be made public by the United States, which is seeking extradition of the businesswoman.

Meng was arrested in Vancouver last Saturday over what media speculates to be allegations of Iran sanctions violations. Chinese Embassy in Ottawa called the arrest a "wrongdoing" and claimed it violates Meng's human rights.

Huawei stated earlier that charges against Meng were not specified. "The company has been provided with very little information regarding the charges and is not aware of any wrongdoing by Ms. Meng," it said in a statement to Canadian outlet The Globe and Mail. However, Justice Department spokesman Ian McLeod said that Meng herself asked for "a publication ban" of the information related to the charges. A bail hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.
