Trump to meet with Dem leaders next week over wall funding - report

United States President Donald Trump will have a meeting next Tuesday with the Democrat congressional leaders in an effort to find an agreement over border wall funding and avoid a government shutdown before December 21, Politico reported on Thursday citing two congressional sources. Trump was originally set to meet with House and Senate minority leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer this week, but the talks were delayed due to the funeral of former US President George H.W. Bush.

Trump already requested $5 billion to fund a wall on the US border with Mexico, but the Democrats are reportedly demanding more concessions on immigration in order to approve such a measure in Congress. Last week, the president threatened to shut down the government if the country's lawmakers don't approve funding for the wall, and subsequently urged the Democrats to support his plan. Trump warned that he will stop the inflow of people into the US "either way," and threatened to close the border if needed.
