Pompeo warns Iran against space launches

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo warned Iran on Thursday against launching satellites into space, claiming such action would be in violation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 which "calls upon the Iranian regime not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons."

"This action includes launching Space Launch Vehicles, which incorporate technology that is virtually identical to that used in ballistic missiles, including in intercontinental ballistic-missiles (ICBMs)," Pompeo said in a statement.

In November, Iran's Defense Ministry announced plans to launch three satellites into space in early 2019.
