Bolton: US needs guarantees from Turkey in Syria

The United States will not pull out its troops from Syria until the Turkish government guarantees it will not attack Syrian Kurdish forces, US National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Sunday during his trip to Israel.

Bolton told reporters President Donald Trump is seeking a commitment from his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan that protects Kurds in Syria following the US withdrawal and added that it’s one of several conditions that must be met before American troops leave the country. "There are objectives that we want to accomplish that condition the withdrawal," he explained.

Earlier, it was reported that Ankara is asking substantial military support from Washington to be the main fighter against the Islamic State extremists in Syria.
