Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby confirmed on Thursday that there has been an explosion outside the airport in Afghanistan's capital Kabul. He added that "casualties are unclear at this time" and that the United States Department of Defense will provide details when possible.
According to media reports, the blast was a suicide attack at the Abbey Gate, one of the entries into the airport, with gunfire following. Reports also claim there are a number of injured Afghans, while there is currently no information on casualties of other nationalities.
