Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov revealed on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un did not sign any cooperation agreements, including one or more concerning defense and military, during their last meeting.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Peskov stressed that meetings between Russia and North Korea, particularly their leaders, should not be seen as a "sensation" but a "tradition." He insisted that North Korea is Russia's "closest neighbor" and that "[n]aturally, we are interested in building and developing relations with our closest neighbors."
The international community previously expressed its concern over potential military deals between Moscow and Pyongyang, with South Korea warning that such agreements with North Korea are against the United Nation's (UN) resolutions. Later, Putin himself said Russia does not intend to violate any international regulations in its cooperation with North Korea.
