Nissan recalls 105K cars in US over airbag issue

Nissan said on Friday it is recalling 105,000 vehicles in the United States as a result of a Takata airbag issue. The carmaker will recall Versa sedan and Versa hatchback cars manufactured in 2011 and 2012 in order to replace the faulty airbags.

The company noted it will replace the parts free of charge as a part of coordinated Takata recalls of faulty airbags which can overinflate and explode due to high temperatures and humidity.

Last year, the Japanese airbag manufacturer pleaded guilty to concealing the defect and agreed to pay $1 billion in a settlement in the United States. Nissan and other carmakers have recalled vehicles worldwide after at least 23 people died and over 300 were injured as a result of the issue.
