Perry urges Europe to import gas from US instead of Russia

United States Energy Secretary Rick Perry called on America's European allies to import more natural gas from the US in order not to be dependent on Russia's gas.

"The United States does not support pipelines such as Nord Stream 2 and a multi-line Turk Stream that will only increase reliance on a single source of supply," Perry stated following a meeting with European officials in Brussels. The energy secretary added that US President Donald Trump believes the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which should open next year and bring Russian resources in the Baltic to customers in the EU, "is not in the EU's best interest." Perry added he expects Trump to raise the issue of the pipeline when he meets Russia's President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki next week.

On Wednesday, Trump harshly criticized Germany for working with Russia on the Nord Stream 2 and claimed Berlin was "a captive of Russia" and will have " 70% of its territory controlled" by Moscow once the gas pipeline project is completed.
