Plane crashes in Seattle after ‘unauthorized take-off’

An Alaska Airlines airplane crashed near Seattle after being stolen by an airline employee from the city’s Sea-Tac Airport. There were no passengers on board the aircraft when the incident occurred.

"An airline employee conducted an unauthorized take-off without passengers at Sea-Tac; aircraft has crashed in south Puget Sound. Normal operations at Sea-Tac Airport have resumed," the Sea-Tac Airport said in a tweet.

The United States Coast Guard said it sent a rescue boat to the scene following reports of smoke near Ketron Island. Alaska Airlines noted it was aware of the incident involving a Horizon Air Q400 plane.
