Stoltenberg: North America and Europe safer together

Despite recent disagreements among members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), North America and Europe are safer together, the alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Wednesday. "We do have disagreements but most importantly we have decisions that are pushing this alliance forward and making us stronger," he stated at a press briefing during the NATO summit in Brussels, reminding the organization had "many disagreements" in its history but has been able to overcome them "again and again."

During the summit, members of the alliance agreed to strengthen NATO, step up the fight against terrorism and "share the burden of security more fairly," Stoltenberg continued. He explained 8 members committed to spending 2% of their GDP on defense, while the majority agreed to reach the 2% target by 2024. "NATO is delivering Europe and North America are working together," the secretary-general underscored.
