Trump to proceed with $200B in China tariffs - report

United States President Donald Trump instructed aides to proceed with slapping tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods. The president decided to move ahead with the duties after meeting Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.

According to sources cited by Bloomberg on Friday, the Trump administration decided to delay the announcement of the measure "based on concerns raised in public comments."

Earlier in the week, it was reported Washington proposed a new round of trade talks with China. Senior administration officials, including Mnuchin, sent an invitation to their Chinese counterparts proposing fresh discussions on trade in the coming weeks.
