Trump would intervene in Meng arrest 'if necessary'

United States President Donald Trump said he would intervene in the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou if he thought it could reflect positively on the US-China trade negotiations.

"If I think it’s good for what will be certainly the largest trade deal ever made - which is a very important thing - what’s good for national security - I would certainly intervene if I thought it was necessary," Trump said in an interview with Reuters. He also confirmed Chinese officials have been in contact with the White House about the situation, but they have not reached out to him directly.
