UK industrial production down by 0.4% in November

Industrial production in the United Kingdom fell 0.4% in November compared to the previous month, the Office for National Statistics said in a report released on Friday. The main contributor to the decline in the figure was a 0.3% drop in manufacturing, while electricity and gas, as well as mining and quarrying output also fell by 1.1% and 1.3%, respectively.

The decrease in manufacturing output came as a result of the fall in eight out of 13 subsectors, with the largest downward contribution coming from basic metals and metal products, which dropped by 3.6%.

For the three months to November, total production output was down by 0.8% compared to the three months to August, with all four main sectors falling for the first time since October 2012. Meanwhile, the annual figure came in 0.9% lower, marking the weakest growth since August 2013 and the first time since October 2012 there has been widespread weakness across all four sectors.
