UK industrial production flat in September

Industrial production in the United Kingdom was completely flat in September compared to the previous month, the Office for National Statistics said in a report released on Friday. The lack of change was due to 0.2% increase in manufacturing being offset by downward contributions in all other main sectors.

Manufacturing rise of 0.2% was mostly due to a strong increase in the basic pharmaceutical products of 3.9%, a rise of 2.8% in chemical products and a gain of 1.4% in other manufacturing and repair.

The total production output for the three months ending September rose by 0.8% compared to the second quarter, mostly due to a positive contribution in the manufacturing of 0.6%. Meanwhile, total production for the quarter increased by 0.7% compared to the same quarter a year ago.
