US Navy officer to meet with Chinese counterpart

Chief of United States Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson (pictured) will be in China for four days starting tomorrow for talks with counterpart Vice Admiral Shen Jinlong and leaders of the country's Central Military Commission. The meetings will focus on reducing risks, the US Navy said, amid tensions between the two powers over the presence in the South China Sea. Most recently in November, Washington urged China to remove its missiles from the disputed islands in the South China Sea,

"Honest and frank dialogue can improve the relationship in constructive ways, help explore areas where we share common interests, and reduce risk while we work through our differences," the statement from the US Navy said.
