US retail sales rise 0.1% in August

Seasonally adjusted advance estimates of retail and food services sales for August in the United States increased 0.1% to to $ 509 billion, compared to the previous month, the US Census Bureau said in a report released on Friday. On an annual basis, retail and food services sales were up 6.6%.

Retail trade sales rose 0.1% in August compared to the previous month and jumped 6.2% year-over-year. Gasoline stations gained 20.3% on an annual basis while nonstore retailers were up 10.4% compared to the same period a year ago.

The retail and food services sales data for the previous month was revised from a monthly increase of 0.5% to 0.7%.
