Wall Street closes higher despite Syria attack concerns

United States markets closed in the green on Monday, after a higher open earlier today, following grim expectations over the weekend as US, United Kingdom and France airstrikes against Syria over its alleged use of chemical weapons in Douma. Meanwhile, media reported that US President Donald Trump is set to withhold new anti-Russia sanctions, previously announced by the US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley.

The Dow Jones Industrial Index ended 0.88% in the green, with UnitedHealth rising 2.69% and Merck increasing 2.59%.

The Nasdaq 100 was up 0.71%, with trucking and transportation company J. B. Hunt leading the gains, jumping 6.19% following the release of a positive earnings report.

The S&P 500 increased 0.81% at the closing bell. Retail pharmacy and health care company CVS Health was up 4.21%

The euro was 0.42% higher against the dollar to sell for 1.2382 at 10:25 pm CET.
