17 Chinese planes, 5 ships spotted near Taiwan

Taiwan's defense department disclosed on Saturday that 17 Chinese aircraft were observed near the disputed island in the preceding 24 hours.

Notably, 13 of these aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, venturing into sectors within the island's air defense identification zone.

"We are monitoring the situation and responding accordingly," the defense department said in a statement.
