Members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) ended their summit with a joint statement committing to deliver a "free, open, fair, non-discriminatory, transparent, inclusive, and predictable trade and investment environment." They agreed the growth of the Asia-Pacific region is "underpinned by the rules-based multilateral trading system."
The member states also acknowledged the role of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and expressed support for its reform, including providing a "fully and well-functioning dispute settlement system accessible to all WTO members by 2024." They vowed to cooperate on "facilitating the flow of data and strengthening business and consumer trust in digital transactions, including through cooperation on regulatory approaches regarding the internet and digital economy as well as consumer protection and data privacy in the digital environment."
