The White House said United States President Joe Biden and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy "agreed to continue the conversation" on the debt ceiling and other issues after a "frank and straightforward dialogue" on Wednesday.
Biden stressed that the government must not allow an "unprecedented and economically catastrophic default." Meanwhile, McCarthy told reporters after the meeting that a funding agreement can be reached and that it "could be for two years." He added that his role is "to make sure we have a sensible, responsible ability to raise the debt ceiling but not continue this runaway spending."
