Abbas accepts Palestinian PM resignation

Palestinian National Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas accepted on Monday the resignation of PA Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh (pictured).

During a press conference earlier today, the prime minister announced the resignation of his government, stating that the changing circumstances in Gaza regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas "require new governmental and political arrangements."

Shtayyeh will act as a caretaker until a new government is established.
