Adams to run for reelection as independent

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday that he will not participate in the city's Democratic primary but will run for reelection as an independent in the general election.

"I have always put New York's people before politics and party—and I always will. I am running for mayor in the general election because our city needs independent leadership that understands working people," Adams said in a post on X.

Last September, the mayor was charged with bribery, fraud, and receiving foreign donations for his campaign. Still, the case was dismissed by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York Judge Dale Ho yesterday upon a request from the US Department of Justice. However, when the charges were first made, the New York Democratic candidates for Congress called for Adams' immediate resignation despite the mayor pleading not guilty to the charges.
