Amtrak CEO steps down amid political uncertainty

Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner announced his immediate resignation Wednesday, citing the need to maintain the railroad's support under President Donald Trump's administration.

"I am stepping down as CEO to ensure that Amtrak continues to enjoy the full faith and confidence of this administration," Gardner said.

Reports indicate that a White House official confirmed Gardner was asked to step down.
