United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stated on Friday that it was likely that the move of the country's embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem will happen only in two-years' time. The remark comes after US President Donald Trump announced that he has recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and was ready to relocate the embassy to the city.

Violent clashes erupted in Jerusalem and in the Gaza Strip, as well as in Muslim countries around the world, over Trump's decision to break with custom and proclaim Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Earlier on Wednesday, the secretary of state stressed that Trump is "committed to the Middle East peace process."
