Apple declines Epic Games' developer account

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney told reporters on a call on Wednesday that Apple has declined the company's request for a developer account that would allow them to establish an app store for iPhones in Europe.

"The manner in which Apple is going about killing Epic here as a competitor to the App Store is super egregious," Sweeney added. The CEO argued that this action was taken in retaliation for Epic Games' lawsuit against Apple.

In 2020, Epic Games filed a lawsuit against the multinational corporation, accusing it of breaching US antitrust regulations by compelling users to solely acquire applications through their App Store and imposing a 30% fee on in-app transactions. Consequently, the popular video game Fortnite was removed from the App Store due to its implementation of an independent payment system.
