A South Korean court approved on Tuesday an extension of the arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol over his attempt to impose martial law.

Yoon is currently facing a criminal probe for insurrection following his controversial announcement of martial law on December 3, which resulted in his impeachment and subsequent suspension from his presidential role.

Leading the investigation, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) has requested that the police take charge of executing the arrest warrant following an unsuccessful attempt involving the presidential security service. The warrant had lapsed as of midnight on Monday.
