United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is "quietly" attempting to influence President Donald Trump to "moderate" his stance on trade, Fox correspondent Charles Gasparino reported on Friday, citing sources close to the president.

According to the report, Bessent's efforts put him at odds with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Counselor Peter Navarro, both of whom are said to advocate a hawkish trade policy.

The report comes amid a worsening trade conflict with China, which triggered significant market turbulence.
