United States President Joe Biden said during his State of the Union address that the US military will install a temporary pier off the Gaza coast, in a bid to ease food shortages in the Gaza Strip.

Biden stated that the pier will be utilized by cargo ships to unload food, water, and other emergency supplies, adding that the pier will enable a "massive increase" in humanitarian aid delivered to Gaza. "Hamas could end the conflict by laying down arms and releasing hostages," Biden went on to say, adding that Israel has an "added burden because Hamas hides in hospitals and amid the civilian population." He emphasized that Israel has a "fundamental responsibility" to protect innocent civilians, describing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as "heartbreaking."

"The United States will not rest" until Hamas-held hostages are released, Biden exclaimed.
