United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a media briefing on Friday that it is incumbent upon China to resolve the Taiwan crisis in a peaceful manner, instead of using intimidation tactics to deter the island's self-governing in the form of military drills.
Blinken also noted that Chinese military action proves that the country does not respect the status quo when it comes to Taiwan. He also referred to military exercises a "serious overreaction" to US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to the island.
The secretary is currently in Cambodia, where he attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting.
