Two explosive devices were planted overnight on cars belonging to Italian embassy employees in Athens, one of which went off, Greek police said on Friday.
According to the Athenian Fire Department, eighteen firefighters were sent to the scene, but no one was injured in the blast. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni offered solidarity to the official, saying that the attack was "probably of an anarchist origin." Greek Foreign Ministry also condemned the incident, stressing it "will in no way disturb the excellent relations and the long-standing bonds of friendship between Greece and its partner and ally, Italy."
The attack happened as Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani was due to pay a scheduled visit to the Greek capital later on Friday.
