United States Attorney General Pam Bondi has sued the state of New York, along with its governor, Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James and Mark Schroder, commissioner of the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), over alleged failures to comply with federal immigration law.
Bondi targeted New York's "green light law" which allows illegal immigrants to get driver's licenses, while also preventing some federal agencies from accessing New York State's driver's license information. She said the law impairs the state's ability to work together with federal immigration enforcement.
"If you don't comply with federal law, we will hold you accountable," Bondi stressed. "We did it to Illinois, strike one. Strike two is New York. And if you are a state not complying with federal law, you're next. Get ready," she added.
