European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Sunday issued a warning to Belarus regarding the country's possible hosting of Russian nuclear weapons on its territory.
"Belarus hosting Russian nuclear weapons would mean an irresponsible escalation and threat to European security. Belarus can still stop it, it is their choice," Borrell stated, noting that the bloc "stands ready" to respond with further sanctions.
His comments come a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed Moscow's intent to station its tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
