European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced Friday that the bloc is aligning with Egypt, Qatar, and the United States in urging an immediate ceasefire and hostage release deal for Gaza.

"We reiterate our full support for their mediation to put an end to the unbearable cycle of suffering," Borrell wrote in X. He also highlighted that the proposed deal is crucial for achieving broader "regional de-escalation."

The EU's endorsement follows Israel's acceptance to attend Gaza ceasefire talks on August 15, as proposed earlier by the United States, Qatar and Egypt.
