The China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced on Saturday that the Far Eastern country launched an astronomical satellite in cooperation with France.
The takeoff took place at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province. The satellite of the type Multi-band Variable Object Monitor (SVOM) was carried to space by a Long March-2C rocket.
"We are looking forward to some important discoveries, such as the earliest gamma-ray bursts that occurred when the universe was still in its childhood, which will help us study cosmic evolution," Wei Jianyan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' National Astronomical Observatories told Xinhua.
