Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed its "strong dissatisfaction" on Sunday over the shooting down of its high-altitude balloon by the United States. US president Joe Biden said he wanted the suspected surveillance device downed "as soon as possible" and it was taken out while flying off the East Coast.

China protested the "use of force" in shooting down its "civilian airship." It called on the US to "properly handle the incident in a calm, professional and restrained manner" and accused it of an "obvious overreaction and a serious violation of international practice." The Chinese government reserved the right to "take further actions in response."
