China officially restored its diplomatic relations with the Republic of Nauru, after the country severed its ties with Taiwan, China's Foreign Ministry said.
Nauru broke off diplomatic relations with Taiwan two days after Taiwan's presidential election and stated that it doesn't consider the country as a separate entity, but, rather, as an "inalienable" part of China's territory.
This diplomatic move brought the country down to just 12 diplomatic allies, however, the island nation does have strong unofficial ties to the United States and Japan.
