Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun (pictured) criticized the US decision to impose tariffs on countries importing Venezuelan oil, calling it an "abuse of unilateral sanctions and interference" in other nations' affairs. Speaking on Tuesday, he urged Washington to lift its restrictions on Venezuela and refrain from actions that destabilize global trade.
"There are no winners in trade wars and tariff wars, and increasing tariffs will only cause American companies and consumers to suffer greater losses," he stressed.
The US order, signed by President Donald Trump, enforces a 25% tariff starting April 2 on any nation buying Venezuelan oil. China, Venezuela’s top buyer, strongly opposes such measures. Guo warned that trade and tariff conflicts harm all parties involved, particularly the US market.
