Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian implored Germany on Tuesday to adhere to a one-China policy ahead of German junior economy minister Udo Philipp's planned visit to Taiwan.
In response to a question about Philipp's planned trip, Lin restated that Taiwan is an integral part of Chinese territory and then urged Berlin to cease all official communication with Taiwanese authorities to avoid sending the wrong signals to "Taiwanese separatists."
Lin commented that the one-China principle is a "just standard" for international relations and the "universal consensus" of the international community, also stating that it is the foundation of Chinese-German relations.
