China's State Council Taiwan Affairs Office imposed sanctions on Monday on two individuals and one organization for their alleged involvement in the Taiwan independence movement. Office spokesperson Chen Binhua said Taiwan's independence and peace across the Taiwan Strait are "as incompatible as fire and water," according to the Global Times.
China sanctioned Kuma Academy, its head Shen Pao-yang and Robert Hsing-cheng Tsao, a businessman accused of funding the organization. "The two individuals have openly pursued efforts to divide the country and fuel discord, seriously threatening peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and causing significant harm to the common interests of people across the Strait, as well as the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation," Chen said.
