Chinese Premier Li Qiang (pictured) will participate in a summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) that will take place in Jakarta from September 5 to 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China said on Friday.

During the same period, Li will also attend the 18th East Asia Summit in the capital of Indonesia and will hold important meetings with officials of Japan and South Korea.

Yesterday, the Financial Times reported, citing anonymous western officials, that Li will represent China at the upcoming G20 summit in India instead of President Xi Jinping, who reportedly decided not to attend the summit.
