Former United Kingdom Foreign Secretary James Cleverly announced on Tuesday that he will run for the Conservative Party's leadership.
The Tories said they will name a new leader in November after a three-month contest following Rishi Sunak's resignation in the aftermath of the party's historical defeat in this month's general election. Sunak will remain the leader of the Conservatives until a replacement is found.
Cleverly is the first Tory to announce his bid. "We need to reestablish our reputation as the party who in government helps grow the economy, helps people achieve their goals, their dreams and their aspirations," he said in his announcement on X.
