United States North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced on X that he is removing himself from being considered as US Vice President Kamala Harris's running mate.
"I strongly support Vice President Harris' campaign for President. I know she's going to win and I was honored to be considered for this role. This just wasn't the right time for North Carolina and for me to potentially be on a national ticket," Cooper wrote.
Cooper was one of about a half dozen politicians being vetted by Harris's team as a potential running mate. It wasn't immediately clear what motivated Cooper to take himself out of the running, but CNN reported that Cooper's age might have been seen by some Democrats as being at odds with Harris's push for a younger ticket. At 67, he was the oldest candidate under consideration.
