A New York appeals court paused on Monday momentarily the civil fraud judgment against former President Donald Trump, significantly reducing the required appeal bond from $454 million to $175 million.
Trump's legal team had previously argued that securing a bond for the full judgment amount was "impossible," citing rejections from over 30 surety companies due to the enormity of the sum.
The legal challenge stems from a lawsuit initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James, which culminated in a ruling against Trump, his sons, and executives of the Trump Organization for presenting "blatantly false financial data" to enhance Trump's financial statements and secure favorable loan terms.
