A shift of Syrian conflict's balance toward the relatively safer districts of the capital city was marked on Sunday by an attack with three vehicles with suicide bombers. Security forces intercepted and chased them, managing to destroy two cars, while a person in the remaining one managed to detonate the device, said the Ministry of Interior, according to a report from SANA agency. At least eight civilians died and 13 more were wounded nearby Tahrir Square in the center of Damascus, the statement adds.
An alliance called Hayat Tahrir al-Sham killed several dozen people this year in the city in suicide blasts. Authorities believe the perpetrators of the latest attack aimed a more crowded area or an official. In other news from the war-torn country, the Islamic State claimed its snipers took out 74 fighters of the Kurdish-dominated People's Protection Units (YPG) from June 6 until the end of the month, during heavy fighting over Raqqa.
