Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was attacked in central Copenhagen on Friday evening, her office announced.

The Copenhagen Police confirmed the incident, noting that the suspected individual who assaulted the 46-year-old prime minister has been arrested. It remains unknown whether Frederiksen sustained any injuries during the incident, however, local media suggest that the prime minister was "beaten" by a male individual.

Several other politicians have been attacked across Europe recently, including Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico who is currently recovering from an assassination attempt, as the region prepares to head to the polls to elect their representatives for the European Parliament.
