New York stock exchanges extended earlier gains on Wednesday after the United States political leadership continued to reassure the nation that it will not default on its debt. President Joe Biden cut his Asia trip short and scheduled a White House press conference on May 21, signaling that an agreement to resolve the debt limit issue could be reached by then.
The Dow Jones rocketed by 0.98% or 325 points, the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.74% and the S&P 500 surged 0.85% at 12:45 pm ET.
The euro declined 0.19% to $1.08422 a minute later.
