Foreign Affairs ministers of France and Germany denounced Iran's decision to execute Mohsen Shekari on Thursday. The protester was found guilty of causing injuries to a security officer in September during a demonstration in Tehran.

French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anne-Claire Legendre told reporters that the "execution comes on top of other serious and unacceptable violations." Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (pictured) added in a Twitter post that the "Iranian regime's contempt for human life is boundless" but "the threat of execution will not suffocate the will for freedom."

Austria's Foreign Ministry also took to Twitter and condemned the execution as "disproportional and inhumane" and urged Tehran to "stop all further executions."
