European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic announced on Thursday that the European Union will delay its response to the United States' latest tariffs from April 1 to mid-April to provide more time for negotiations.
Speaking at the European Parliament Committee on International Trade's (INTA) meeting in Brussels, Sefcovic said that if the EU and the US do not reach a deal, the bloc will come up with a "firm, proportionate, robust, and well-calibrated" reaction.
After Washington's initial sanctions that mostly hit the bloc's automobile industry and the latter's countermeasures, US President Donald Trump threatened to introduce a 200% tariff on the bloc's alcohol exports.
