European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill said on Thursday that the European Union will use the pause in tariffs to "analyze and reflect," consult member states and industry stakeholders and refine its strategy "if necessary." He added that the EU's key objective remains to get the United States to the negotiating table, arguing that the two sides can reach "all sorts of beneficial outcomes."
Gill said the EU will continue preparing for all outcomes as it received a "resounding" mandate from member states to proceed with retaliatory measures yesterday. He clarified that the US tariffs on cars remain in place, as well as the 10% tariff applied to all imports into the US.
