Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a phone call on Thursday that the conflict between Israel and Hamas could be solved by forming a sovereign Palestinian state. "It is essential that the promises made to Palestine are kept and that the international community leads the establishment of an independent, sovereign State of Palestine with geographical integrity," he said.

Erdogan added that Turkey is "making every effort" to end the current crisis and is "ready to take many peaceful steps, including mediation."
